Why are Brompton rear rack rollers asymmetrical?

Postby chmac on Sat Jul 29, 2017 3:04 pm

I just noticed that the rear rollers (rear rack wheels) on my Brompton rear rack are not symmetrical. The one on the right hand side of the bike is on the outside of the rack, but the one on the left is on the inside. My bike has fallen to the left side several times while standing with the rear wheel folded under (but not fully folded). I've now moved the wheel to the outside and so far (in all of the last 3 minutes) there have been no issues.

The Brompton manual shows that this is the "correct" setup. But I'm so far unable to find any reason as to why.

Can anyone say why this is the case? I'm sure speculation abounds, but I'm curious if anyone actually knows why Brompton made this decision.
